Beans
Friday, January 23, 2009 | By freya1970

They are like the canned beans you get with the pork and lard in them, but there is no pork and lard :) Just the sauce and it is tomato based. Here is one: http://img.alibaba.com/photo/10990365/Canned_Baked_Bean_In_Tomato_Sauce.jpg
We get all kinds here but different brands!
If you're not vegetarian you could always use the pork & lard ones :)

making candles last

voltive candles are small and cheap. Try using one to extend the life of your candle. When the wax of the new candle is exhausted you should still have the wick.

Shoes
Wednesday, January 21, 2009 | By pamphyila

Have to admit my best shoes come from thrift shops nowadays - (I disinfect them) - But I might pop for good boots if I lived in your climate - I just have bargain Uggs for my trips to NYC in winter, etc. But, really, I haven't paid that much for shoes in my life - there is a new site where everything is $29 - including boots! It was mentioned on the Budget Fashionista site, I think - you might try that - altho it's hard to buy shoes long distance....

I am bad - I only go if I can entertain & get in gratis - I can sit in the shade & play music - so that works...Sorry that you have health problems. Maybe you should sit in the shade, too! Where is the faire you mention? (Have to admit I take in iced tea mix in a Ren pitcher with ren cup and just get water and buy ice...) Used to be a busman's holiday for me - & I got paid for the music -What's more - that's where I met my musical husband & very nice he is, too!

Wow what a great story! Thanks for sharing. I think it's wonderful that your kids are aware of your financial situation. I wish more parents shared this with their children. Reality makes them learn fast and appreciate what they have. My husband was raised with his parents just scraping by for a long time, the parents always talked to the kids about everything. he is one of the most appreciative people I know and is not materialistic. He learned the value of money at an early age! I am envious of him because I was raised much differently:(when something broke we got a new one instead of fixiing it for example). My parents had the means to do this, which on some level is unfortunate. Good lucck and well done :D
