POST FEEDBACKS ON THIS Hi Pam Monday, January 19, 2009 | By annaroseannadanna
My DH use to belong to the Society for Creative Anachronism. He still is an honorary member of his 'house' and he goes by "Uncle Bjorn" although he is not an active participant any more. His group also puts on a Ren Fair every yr. It use to be held right down the street from us at a local college but it has gotten so big over the years that they have moved it to The Sedwick county lake park. DH no longer participates in it because of health problems (his & mine) but he is still friends with all the people who were in his 'house'. His participation in it included donning (the word is escaping me!) those metal suits, LOL, with a helmet & sword and fought. He can no longer wear those metal suits --they weighed up to 200+ pounds!-- FC Monday, January 19, 2009 | By pamphyila Tried to give away some arm chairs when we upgraded and a love seat - but no luck! Now I feel I have to make some contributions to make it all come out even. The fax is great - it does everything but bake bread (altho we just need it to fax out hubby's school paperwork) and if bought retail would be very expensive! Why were they GIVING this AWAY? my husband said. Of course, we have schools to hand on things to! freecycle Monday, January 19, 2009 | By annaroseannadanna
Don't ya just love FC? I do! Except when you get a no show or don't get picked for a requested item. I have also received lots of freebies from FC. A card table & 4 chairs. Didn't need the chairs so passed them on thru FC. Have received a Sun tea Jar (approx $5 new), filters for our above ground pool ($15 new), a full bucket of Chlorine tabs for our pool ($50 new), have several times received boxes of books. I went thru them and re-gifted those I wasn't interested in...and if I sat and thought about it I've probably received more than that. But I've also gotten rid of lots of stuff too. and i do mean LOTS, LOL. changed xmas gifts Monday, January 19, 2009 | By annaroseannadanna hubby didn't want to buy spangles gift cards for the g-kids. instead he ended up spending almost $100 each on them! there are 6 grandkids!!! Hello Pamphyila, Our Christmas' didn't use to be quite so nice. But now hubby is receiving his Boeing Early Retirement along with his paycheck (he works for a telecommunications as a IT tech), plus we recently got our house paid off so financially we are in a much better spot than we were 2 yrs ago. 2 yrs ago we barely had a pot to piss in let alone money to spend on christmas! DH recently had a relative pass away & with the inheritance we were able to pay off our house. That freed up $600 a month! I really don't feel the need like I use to about saving and not buying anything unless I had a coupon or it was on sale. But I hate spending the $$$ stores want for overpriced goods so I always try to buy on sale or with a coupon. We used the inheritance plus most of our savings to pay off the house so I would like to replenish our savings. My husband is almost 60 & I'm not too far behind so...I'm trying to continue with my frugal ways, LOL. Homemade laundry soap Sunday, January 18, 2009 | By leftthesanebehind Have you tried making your own laundry soap, ? We were very sceptical at first, but now my husband(mr keep up with the joan's) is asking how i make it and what makes it work so well! It is so cheap to make and lasts so much longer than that of the store bought variety! Check out www.thesimpledollar.com homemade laundry soap, you might be surprised! re bingo Saturday, January 17, 2009 | By yard_sale_annie yes bingos expensive and its hard to win any money..i use to go to the casino with my mother she would get free dinners when she had so many points on her dinner card at least there you can get something for free but not at bingo.. having to live cheaper too Saturday, January 17, 2009 | By leftthesanebehind Hubby is awaiting surgery fro his shoulder..and has switched positions at work a few months ago, but it was only temporary, now the temporary has expired, only 2 days ago. They told him they wanted to relace him, so he is going to sign on for this job permantly, "cause it is better to have a job. But it means a $4/hr pay cut, so i started living cheaply, $65 for groceries this week and it got me alot! So never fear my dear, we are in this with you, hope your DH gets that job! Prays to all Thanks for sharing :) Friday, January 16, 2009 | By freya1970 I know in Canada they got rid of the Subway cards i think 2 years ago, not sure if they did the same in the US. WOw that's great that you get starbucks cards for filling out surveys! I get them with airmiles.ca every so often which is nice. I keep that one and another coffee place card in my wallet for emergencies when I have no money :)
