Added another 100 to the house savin's account, remebering what i started this Blog for reminds me, I have another $2000, coming from a settlement from a legal issue. So in about 2 wks time the account will be almost $4000 so yeah me, so close yet so far, have set a new goal, need at least $6000 before we can look at houses, because the money from the settlement is to much easy money, need to still save! fleas

You've got to fight them in ALL areas at the same time. Otherwise you're just chasing them around. Bathe or treat the animals, put them in the car while you put their bedding in the washer and set foggers for the house, take a drive to the farm supply store and get some 7-dust for the yard. After the foggers have had their time air out the house. It's a battle but it can be won.

I think the park is a good idea but I think I would wait until he knows you and your home a bit better. An hour trying to go home is too long. He'll come around. He just has to learn to trust. He wasn't born with a fear of the belt or leash.

stretching food

You can also stretch your chili by adding a can of whole kernal corn to the pan. I have to do this when my stepson shows up unexpectedly at lunch time! It also makes for a much cheaper pot of chili if you use dry beans. Takes a little forethought but worth it.

plastic bags
Thursday, February 26, 2009 | By pamphyila

I wonder why grocery bags get all the flack when no one seems concerned about plastic bags used for garbage? We use our plastic bags a LOT and then recycle the surplus. (In Africa they call them "flying toilets" I understand - becaz, well they use them for toilets on the fly...) So many uses.

Summer Reading

Another way to go even more thrifty is to put the book on a USB port (also called flash drive) and transfer the files from one computer to another.

USB ports can be reused and rewritten over and over again, whereas CDs you can only use once and it will very likely end up in the land fill. :-( Also, one can get USB ports that hold more storage then the 700MB CD in case your book is very long. :-)

Of course you can also just hook up the computers with a USB cable or fire wire and turn on file sharing and transfer the files without any extra waste at all. :-)

my solution
Wednesday, February 25, 2009 | By Barbaral

When I had your problem, I was living in a house with 2 dogs and a fenced yard. I bought a solution that could be used as a flea dip and as a yard spray. I also got some foggers for the house. I did the animals, the yard spray, and the foggers at the same time
more or less.

GOOD LUCK

A repeat treatment is needed. I think the timing is 2 weeks, because flea eggs will hatch. After the second treatment you should be good until fleas are reintroduced. The dog might be the carrier in the future or they might be on a wild animal. Wild animals would be in the yard, so further repetion of yard spraying might make sense.

HEAT BILL
Tuesday, February 24, 2009 | By RDLaure

That's extraordinarily high. If you can lower your thermastat at all, that would be a start (depending on what you normally keep it on). If you don't have a programmable thermostat, that will help alot by allowing you to keep the temperature lower when you are not at home - like while you are at work, or when you are sleeping. It is healthier and promotes better sleep to sleep in a cooler room. You didn't mention what is the heat source - gas/propane, oil, or electric? Anyway, without reinventing the wheel, there are alot of small things you can do to make your home more energy efficient. Any of the power companies will have information on their website. Here is a link to some info from my company's website.

Good luck! I thought my bills were high!
