Get rid of ants!
Wednesday, March 18, 2009 | By Kdot

Ants can pick up cornmeal easily and they do, they take it home to momma and the gang. I was told they cannot digest it so 'walla'! You can sprinkle it outside around house and under decks, rain won't bother. Sprinkle it inside the house, won't harm anything/anyone. Give it a try. I even got rid of large black ant hills in my yard! Fun to watch, hehehhee

Household Sewing/knitting
Monday, March 16, 2009 | By pamphyila

Can't claim that I am a wiz at any of it - but what I turn out ends up OK. I even find hand sewing relaxing ?? - It was hard when I first started - but you just have to get the hang of it & make the stitches you sew by hand even - Start with a running (straight) stitch & go on to a hemming stitch - those plus sewing on buttons is probably all you need to start. I was lucky, because my mother did teach me how to sew, embroider & knit - altho I still depended upon books - & now there is so much info on the internet. The trick is to start with simple, satisfying projects that are hard to foul up. I am back to knitting & I am just knitting shawls with a simple garter stitch (knit/knit etc) on very BIG needles, so it goes FAST. And the gauge (stiches per inch) really doesn't matter. And what's more, I have been using fun fur + yard - so any mistakes disappear or can be covered UP. There is SO much info now on the net - even free knitting patterns (try Lion Brand yarns or Jo-Anne craft store internet sites....) If you have a sewing/knitting friend, maybe they will give you a hand...& you can exchange your soaps, etc. If you can make SOAP you can SEW. It's all just organized knotting, and binding.....(Oh, look at www.threadbangers.com for cool ideas and how to's....) Oh, and don't worry about alterations being difficult - if you aren't a tailor most of them, other than putting up hems - are hard to do....

Well, it looks like your boredom has paid off big time. Your projects are beautiful. I bet this stuff would look lovely in your home or you could sell it somewhere.

Thanks for the recipe!

Thanks for the recipe for Potato Broccoli Soup. I am extremely allergic to milk. I have never been able to figure out how to make potato soup without milk, so this sounds really yummy.

I am interested in pursuing a vegetarian lifestyle for health reasons. Primarily, I think eating red meat has been causing me problems by weakening my immune system. After over 30 years of various health problems, I finally figured out milk was a problem and have eliminated that. Do you have any advice on how to get started with this? Is it better to gradually incorporate more vegetables in your diet or go cold turkey on meat?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

your poor but beautiful late dogwood

The flowers are so lush for a young tree. Our dogwoods are 60+ years old and have fewer and less lush blossoms. Good luck with your Arbor Day trees.

Envious!

I am so envious that you can sew and knit! I've attempted to sew something simple like pouches and buttons..even now I can't seem to get it right. Even when I was in homeEc class in my early teens, we all made a wallet out of velcro..not to sound incredibly sexist but the guys' wallets were so much prettier than mine! I did a horrible job! I am greatly challenged when it comes to any crafts that involve fabric or yarn. Someone suggested I go take a class & give it another shot. I've tried to learn on my own MANY times and failed. Dad always said that trying is always good but it's ok to accept defeat, we can't always be good at everything right? My dad was an incredibly intelligent successful man, in fact he was a genius. He could never swim but revisited this in his 50's. He failed his basic swimming test and just accepted that it was one of the things he wasn't ever going to master. I can't imagine how hard that would have been for him because he was good at almost everything.

I buy lots of thrift clothes to and end up having to get my partner to sew on things but if any adjustments need to be made I have to get it done. It really bothers me. argh!

Hope you get the part you auditioned for? And what's up with size 0 actresses? I don't get how anyone can want to look that way. yikes!
