Don't Try My Previous Post
Monday, October 30, 2006

I spent about two hours trying to melt my candies into a peppermint wreath.  Well it didn't work.  I followed the directions and every time I went to pop it out it, broke.  I now have a big glass of "broken stained glass candy".

Cute, Cheap Christmas Craft
Wednesday, October 25, 2006

I recently went to a Friends of the Public Library book sale and picked up an old Better Homes and Gardens cookbook from the early 1990's.  In it was such a cute ornament made from peppermints.

You take five or six pepperments and put them in a tart pan (which I bought for $.10 on a clearance rack at the Corning Ware store) and melt them in there for 4 to 5 minutes in a 325 degree oven.  You just stick a cuticle stick in the top to make a hole for hanging.  Let it cool down a bit, press it out of the tart pan and stick a little bow on it and there you have it.

I'll be hitting the after Halloween clearance sale for 75% off peppermints!   Cute and frugal!

New Things
Tuesday, October 24, 2006

I moved in officially this weekend.  I saved money and splurged and spent $50 and got a new comforter (bed in bag) set and new shower curtain and bathroom rug and few little niceities like room spray, etc.

I bought some plants and a huge potted palm (low light required)!  When my best friend walked in she was shocked and totally sat down and said how comfortable and cute everything was!  That made my day!

I haven't shopped in so long, it felt weird to part with the $50!  Everything is up and looks so nice I wish I had another $50 for other things to spruce it up!  Either way, I'm happy it looks so nice.

Hurray for my Cousins
Friday, October 20, 2006

I've been moving boxes a few every day.  I called my one cousin who has a pick up truck to help me, and more cousins are coming to help me move Sunday at noon!  Now all I have to do is finish packing boxes, boxes and more boxes.

I'm going to treat them all to lunch.  As they know I am kind of poor, I'm just going to have Little Ceasars pizza, plus homemade deserts (which I will make extras for them to take home as thank you gifts).  I'm going to make a giant ceasar(ish) salad and make homemade breadsticks before they come.  I'll also have iced tea and lemonade.  I know its frugal, but it should be good and filling.

I'm so happy they are willing to come help me.  I was afraid to ask, but I am so glad I did.  I think I come from one of the greatest families ever!

Office Lunch
Tuesday, October 17, 2006

Today I got to cater the office meeting lunch.  I did it all for about $25.00.  I went to Costco and got sandwiches.  I got chips/dips, coleslaw and cookies and soft drinks.  I think my boss was pretty pleased.  He said I had a great spread out there and I even brought him back change.

Moving is Hard Work
Monday, October 16, 2006

What I woundn't give to have a bunch of burly teenaged worker boys lift and carry my boxes and furniture downstairs and then upstairs at my new apartment.

I forgot how heavy boxes are even filled with sheets are when you are carrying them up the stairs.  My newly retired father wants to help me move boxes in so he has something to do during the day.  I'm thinking I'll let him move as many as he wants.

So far I have my bathroom unpacked and kitchen unpacked for the basics.  Luckily I still have two more weekends to get the rest packed and unpacked.  I have about 36 boxes so I fill them up and then move them over and then bring the empty boxes back for refilling again.

I am getting a $100 gift card from Rent.com for finding an apartment on there!  I'm getting a new comforter with that and probably a shower curtain.

I'll add photos when I have some furniture in there.  You'll be amazed at my trash collection of furniture.  Especially the beautiful teak dining room table.

New Apartment
Friday, October 13, 2006

This weekend I am signing a lease on a new apartment.  The rent will be the same as my old place, but much more room.  I was playing a lot for a little flat in Royal Oak, Michigan, but am now moving to the next county over where gas is cheaper.  My friends mostly live on this side of town too.

I'm looking forward to packing up and moving in the next two weeks.  This is the first time since I left my beast (ex-husband) that I will actually have a kitchen to myself with some cupboards for storage.  Woo Hoo, I'm so excited.

Next time I move though, it will be into a house I am buying on my own.

If you have any packing and moving tips, let me know.

Little Breakfast Biscuits
Tuesday, October 10, 2006

I always wanted to try the pre-made biscuits and sausage in the freezer section.  I had a coupon and tried them, and I wasn't impressed.  So, I decided to make my own.

I started with a can of biscuits from Aldi's $.29 per can.

I had some reduced priced unseason pork that I bought of the rack at the grocery store by my house (Sunday mornings they mark down meat at a great rate).  So I had $.91 worth of pork sausage.

I made little tiny patties and seasoned them with salt, pepper and other ancient Polish secret herbs.  I baked them for about 8 minutes until they were fully cooked.

I put them on the little biscuits and individually wrapped them for breakfast at work this week.

So for $.12 per serving I had ten little biscuit sandwiches.

MMM MMM Good!  Cheap, Fast, Easy and Delicious

First Cold of the Season
Thursday, October 05, 2006

Oh man I caught the first office cold of the season.  I feel achy and tired and my chest is so congested.  I have chills and just feel awful.  I can't wait until the end of the day today so I can climb back into bed.

Tonight I will make my ancient Polish secret cold remedy.  I cook raw onions and garlic and then add chicken broth.  I then float cut up raw green onions and drink it down.  It actually does seem to help the cold and also keeps vampires at bay.
