You made me laugh!
Wednesday, November 26, 2008 | By pamphyila

Love the Stephen Wright joke - made me laugh out loud! I know it does feel that way sometimes when you are in a place filled with cheap junk that's overpriced even tho it's used!

The trick is to go into the "better" neighborhoods for your thrift fix. (Not to mention lots of other services! The local suburban library has "Friends" and the selection of new books is a lot nicer than in some other branches, for example.) My husband has been appalled at what's available in the poorer neighborhoods where he is supervising Special Ed Services... Crummy stuff and not inexpensive, either! I once read that one should always try to live on the edge of a good address, and this is one of the reasons why...

I did sell the 3 skinny scarfs I made, plus a newborn beanie cap! I marked the scarfs for $15 (@ only $2.00 to make) and after lunch I marked them down 50%. I sold all 3 of them within an hour!

We're already planning our craft list for next year! I can't wait, LOL.

Don't spend it all

If you spend all the $300 you pressure him, your relationship & yourself. Do you have photos or souvenirs of great times together? You could make a small album or wall collage with some of that - add the movie card, restaurant card, or something dealing with any hobby or special interest he has, esp. if it's one you share.

My husband owns & runs a cleaning service. He said to blot it with a wet cloth. Do not put anything else other than water on it. Hope this helps

Mom's advice pays great dividends
Friday, November 21, 2008 | By Happyhelper

Your post reminded me of some advice my Mom used to always tell me when I was growing up...She would say to go to the most expensive store in town and find what you like, the style, color, pattern and so forth and then she said to go to the least expensive store in town and start there. If you don't find something similar then move up to the next least expensive store and look there. You can usually find something similar to what you like in your price range that will satisfy what you like. Sometimes you will have to keep looking and moving up the price scale and occasionally I would end up paying the larger price but most of the time it worked for me. I know when I was a teenager I kept asking my Mom to buy me a name brand pocketbook for my birthday. She told me it would be foolish to spend so much money on a pocketbook because of the label and then have no money to put in it. Instead she showed me a really pretty leather pocketbook of fine workmanship for less than half the price. She asked me if I still wanted the expensive purse and I said I did not. She bought me the purse and a nice leather wallet to put in it and still could give me some cash to put in it. It was a valuable lesson I never forgot.

Barbies
Friday, November 21, 2008 | By pamphyila

Had a good friend who was a Barbie collector and her buds in the Barbie world even put new HAIR on them somehow - For cheap I would suggest just trying to use marker on light-colored shoes....Aren't dolls fun? I have a secret collection myself...
