Good idea! I"ll try to acquire some pine branches at the market (I live in the city so sadly i can't just get them) and get some nice white candles. Thanks! GREAT Idea!

Knitting

So chilly in S. Calif. that I finally finished an ascot length scarf I had started months ago out of eyelash funny fur I had snagged at the 99 Cent store.

Have a happy holiday.

Whew! You have millionaire Xmases. I start shopping after Labor Day and fill up my gift box with super values. If we had that $ to spare - it would go to the bills!

But grandparents love to spoil the little ones, I know...

Our Xmas gift exchanges are mostly symbolic - we get what we really want when we see a really super deal on the spur of the moment -

I wonder if inversion would help your back - you could just try lying backwards off the side of your bed to experiment...

Allow yourself to decorate a LITTLE - even pine boughs (branches) in a vase adds a festive touch! And those and candles are VERY Winter Solstice!

Snacks

A fitness program I was on taught me how good nuts are as snacks - and nuts and fruit are almost always readily available!

Gifts

I look around and see titles like "gifts for under $40" or $20 - or... and I have never in my life spent that much - because I frankly didn't have it. Didn't keep me from participating in a gift exchange, tho -
Gifts are nice - but they don't stop up the holes in anyone's heart. Let's remember that.

Great Post!

I agree whole heartedly with this! I make most of my gifts and have spent less than $150 for EVERYONE including friends/family and acquaintances. My family always looks forward to the box of goodies i send them because the items were chosen or made with love. People get thrift books, records, clothes and handmade items/foods and no one has ever complained. I had a friend spend LOTS of money on her kid last year, he complained that his christmas was bad, that he didn't get anything good...so the guilt drove her to spend more. I wish people didn't give in like that. I don't have children, but if I did i certainly wouldn't give into guilt. Not my style. Here's hoping people won't drive themselves into severe debt this holiday season!!

Ezines

I make regular zines and i also made an e-zine (pdf file) for "Vegan Gifts in a Jar". Since it's close to the holidays and no more time for shipping, i've been selling a lot of these! I charge $1.50. It costs me 20cents to list it. Here is my Etsy store (so you can see it!):

Last Mins. at a Yard Sale
Monday, December 15, 2008 | By pamphyila

They say to come early - but I have gotten great deals by showing up at the END of a yard sale - by then, whoever is holding the sale just wants to get RID of everything! And the prices are usually very low.
