I am very happy for you, and by the way your kitten is adorable! Here are my top money saving tips: I have a very clean house that I get complimented for again and again, and it costs me pennies to do. My secret? The only cleaners you really need are a basic soap) like dishsoap (I actually use a grated ivory bar soap), vinegar, and baking soda. That's it. What one won't clean, one of the others will. It is also great to know my house is toxin free and I am helping the environment. Decorating: remember a house is to be a home not a object to show off. In other words, make it comfy and pleasant for you and don't worry about what others think. Decorate in a way that feels good. Use beloved photos, mementos and other things that you all ready have. Just about anything can deocate a home if it is balanced (does not clash too much or clutter) and makes you happy. Window treatments can be a killer expense. My solution? Wall hooks and flat bed sheets that match the color of the room. I originally got this idea from an interior decorator and it looks lovely! Just make a swag from one hook to the next across the top of your window. Flat sheets also make great table cloths. Again, use what you have to decorate. If you don't really have that much I suggest some fun thrift store and yard sale shopping. Also, paint makes a huge difference in a room and it is inexpensive. And lastly, watch those utilities! Be wary of just how much electricity, water etc. you use daily it can add up. Again a big congrads on your wonderful new home!:)
Best wishes to you!
