P.S. Try ethnic

I find that ethnic accessories/jewelry and so on are always in style - and you can find that sort of thing in thrift shops and craft stores inexpensively. Or get beads & string a necklace yrself on fishing line.

Handbags

There are lots of totes around this season - so you should be able to find one - at Payless? Ross? or another discount chain? Summer ones can be straw or canvas & won't last long - but they are cheaper! Also check out deals on the net - at amazon.com etc. Hubby bought me several bags from the clearance table at an ofc supply store! Sturdy & I get compliments on it. (Meant orginally as a laptop bag apparently...) All less than $15 each - which is a LOT for me.

Thanks so much for the tips! I wished I lived in my home city where fashion is everywhere! Where I live now is too small to have a garment district (or any real district for that matter!) LOL. My dollarstores don't have sunglasses either but I'll keep perusing the thrift stores for those and woven bags. I am so envious that you found one! Been searching for a good spring bag the last while with no success. I agree that it's good to know big designer names. I once found a Betsy Johnson skirt at a thrift store for $2. :) Always pays to be in the know!!

so nice to see your little girl eating freas veggies! So many kids don't even have a clue where their food comes from and many more don't like veggies. So sad for them!!
When my 2 boys were about 4 & 5 their dad took them outside to get corn for dinner. When they didn't return I went to check. I found all three of them standing in the garden eating corn off the cob right there. They moved on to the peas and shelled and ate as they meandered on to the tomatoes. As I watched them they finished their dinner and went to the peach tree for dessert. I wasn't a country girl myself so watching this was a real treat...besides, I didn't have to cook that night!

Nice!

I really should get to L.A.! Seems like you find way more accessories where you are!! I am in desperate need of some cool cheap sunglasses and big bangles/necklaces. Seems to be the fashion these days. The thift stores here aren't great for those types of things, mainly because people here are 20 years behind in fashion amongst other things..haha. So sadly they are probably still hanging on to their 80's jewelry. The clothes are good because most of them come from other areas and bought by the pound by the thrift store so we usually find good clothing. So happy you found some great stuff! I'm envious :)

Coloring Shampoo

There are several brands: Redken/John Frieda/Pantene & the healthfood store brand Shikai. I have used many brands, including a stash of Marc Anthony I got a few years ago at a dollar store!

And, hey, thanks for reminding me that you are all out there! It's much appreciated.

The trick for me is to MIX the red + blonde shampoos - wash once & rinse - then SIT for 15-20 mins. with the mixture under a shower cap. When I was first introduced to it, I was put under a dryer by a stylist. But I prefer sitting in a hot bath. Then you use a combination of blonde + red conditioner.

I find that it generally covers the grey - but I can touch up my temples with hot coffee if necessary! (browns down the grey) I have also tried rinses, colored mousses - but they generally RUN if I sweat, as I do a lot around my face!

I also am in the habit of streaking my hair with regular hydrogen peroxide before I shampoo/color my hair. I only apply to new growth at crown/part, etc. That also masks any greying, esp. after the color shampoo treatment. And peroxide also gives a reddish tint to the highlights.

I am glad I have hit upon this & will use it until there is too much grey. But so far, so good. I tried just an OTC touch up & found it MUCH too irritating - so I don't think I could use hair color per se. If I had to go that route, I would try henna. I have some blonde henna- but have never used it!

The best hint I ever read was that you should do a MESSY job of your hair color - as natural hair color is never uniform! There is generally lighter color on the top with what they call "low lights" underneath. Keep that in mind and use more blonde in the shampoo mix you use on your streaks!
