I volunteer at the Salvation Army 3 days a week and in general donations are good. What makes me upset is the junk that some people drop off. Just because it's a 2nd hand store doesn't mean send things wiith rips, holes, stains, or any item that just doesn't work. We're not a trash dump. We are proud what we give back to the community. Volunteer once and you'll see what I mean. |
Keeping a sock drawer fresh

Instead of throwing away the perfume samples that come in all of your magazines, tear them out and place them in your husbands or children's sock drawer. It's refreshing and will last about 4 or 5 openings.

Make your own Go Green shopping bags

Make shopping bags from your old, but good condition, tee shirts. All you need to do is sew the bottom of the shirt securely. If the neck isn't big enough to drop in your items, cut it bigger and sew as necessary to prevent additional ripping. Take craft twine, old belt, rope or what ever is comfortable for you and run it through the arms of tee shirt for your handle or you could use the arms for your handle. If you don't have any tee shirts, go to your local Salvation Army and they'll let you have shirts they're not going to put out for sale. The best bags are shirts that have pictures, emblems or sayings written on them.
