So I am currently a stay at home mom with 3 year old twin boys. I enjoy my time with them very much. But with the economy the way it is today, and only having one income, money can get a little tight.
In my spare time, I love spending time on the internet. I found various ways to earn free stuff on the internet. Which helps me continue to stay at home with my boys.
I wanted to share some of the ways with others.
The first site I want to tell you about is www.uanditrade.com This is a great site, and I am so thankful that I found it. It is a trade site where you connect with other moms all over the United States. And trade items with them. From baby and toddler clothes, books and toys to household items. It is a great way to recycle your gently used items for other needed items. I have gotten so much great stuff off of there for my kids. And everyone there is so friendly!! With this site, they use a point system. So NO MONEY is ever exchanged between traders. That helps keep it simple. I encourage you check out the site!! My referral code is: 657A7E2B But it is not necessary to use.
Another great site is www.points2shop.com Now this site is a little more confusing, but you can earn the most amount from here. Once you learn the ropes, you will be earning tons!! My boys are really into Thomas the train. And within 2 short months, I was able to get tons of brand new items for them from Amazon.com I have gotten them Thomas the Train bedding, trains, playsets, other toys and dvds. Thomas the Train items are a little on the expensive side. So I am extremely thankful that I found this site, because it allows me to be able to buy them things I cannot afford. There are several ways to earn through this site. You can try your luck with the games, take daily surveys, OR complete 100% completely free offers. Just make sure you register using VALID information. And set up another email for completing offers because they will spam you!! It is completely worth it though because you earn points which can be redeemed for ANYTHING on Amazon.com. Please check it out and start earning today. http://www.points2shop.com/index.php?ref=uin12125425516725
Another one of my personal favorite sites in www.winster.com This is more of an entertainment site. But it is free (you can upgrade your membership for a small fee but it is not necessary). Its basically just a game site, but you can earn small amount gift cards just from earning points. I am very addicted to the game "Slot Social". When registering, please use "misskarin323" as your referral.
ClearVoiceSurvyes and Lightspeedpanel and survey sites that let you earn Amazon gift cards. Lightspeedpanel is basically just your typical survey site. You can earn more than just Amazon gift cards from there. (that is just my personal preference.) You can earn other gift cards and prizes. Or even cash out to your paypal account.
WeShopTalk.com is something new that I have just discovered. With this site, you have to do a required amount of "work" to earn your gift card. Which includes taking their survey or participating in a discussion. It is based on weekly requirements. The surveys are more like questionnaires and aren't very long at all. I spent maybe a total of 10 minutes a week on this site. I give my opinion on their selected topics and get rewared with an Amazon gift card.
Swagbucks.com is a search engine. By doing your average, everyday searches....you randomly win Swagbucks. When you earn enough swagbucks, you can cash out for gift cards OR prizes. This site also has SwagCodes and randomly hour winners.
These sites are worth checking out. Especially if you enjoy spending on Amazon.com Happy shopping people!!
Right after the holidays I already have to start planning birthday gifts as I have two friends in Feb and 4 friends at the beginning of March to get things for. Then the rest of the year, pretty much nothing till December! hahah...figures!
All my close friends (all born in March) are on tight budgets too, but not all of them are really good at doing research and coming up with money saving ideas (that's where I come in!). I decided to write them a mini "zine" which I will give each of them (quarter size about 10 pages with quick tips to save, websites, recipes and a few other articles). It's meant to be a quick resource guide. The zine mentions Dr. Bronner's Soap and Soapnuts, so along with the zine I will give them each a bag of soapnuts (purchase a small bag on their website for 1 penny each + shipping (you can only order two at a time, i already have two on hand) and a sample of Dr. Bronners soap (I had emailed them last year and asked for samples, i got 5 of them!). The zine also mentions the Entertainment Guide which I might purchase when they go on sale for $10 plus free ship (usually in Feb) for two of these friends (the others won't have use for it). So for 4 gifts, I will have spent under $30! If I don't buy the entertainment guides, these gits will run me about $2.50 each. I can photocopy the zines at work for free and all I paid was for the shipping of the free samples on the soapnuts. Since I have two trips coming up in Feb (Mexico & Montreal), I might have to stick with the $2.50 gifts! My friends LOVE my crazy homemade gifts and ideas, so it's sure to be a hit. For one friend, I will add a lotus tea light holder which I found for 25cents at a discount store.
So if you have any friends trying to live on a tight budget but they aren't so good at it, this could be a fun project for you and a great useful gift for them. It really only took me two days to write the content (as a lot of it is already information I use) and another few hours to put it together (I print the pages, then cut and glued onto folded quarter sized sheets, then photocopy). A quicker way is to use MS Publisher as they have templates to make booklets.
Well I finally hit the mall today! So sad to see Steve and Barry's totally empty and Kb toys well on the way! I did get some 50% off bargains to put away for gifts next year.
Tommorrow I will hit the other mall and see what else I can buy and cover next year's gift occasions.
Today I was thinking about what I could give the women who work at my temp agency. I've come up with a few ideas and will end up choosing one of them. I wanted to give them something environmental/green. Here is what I came up with so far:
*Travel Coffee Mug from the thrift store with a $2 organic coffee gift card in it and a few candy canes, then wrap it in newspaper tied with raffia (or a "one pot" package of organic fair trade coffee) - could also make soy hot chocolate mix! (I posted the recipe on this website)
*A plastic container filled with homemade biscotti
*HandMade Soy candles in vintage tea cups from the thrift store or mason jars
*Handmade Eye Pillows using flax seed or rice with lavender flowers and thrift store fabric or cut up clothing.
*To each give them a plant from clippings, pot them in thrift store found clay pots and decorate or paint the pots.
*Handmade Bath Salts using non iodized sea salt from the grocery store.
I find that people give each other so much food during the holidays that I was trying to think mostly of non-food useable gifts. I find that consumeable gifts are still always the best, like soaps, bath products, drink mixes...
I also went to the Salvation Army today looking for clothes for one friend but ended up finding clothes for another! I already had enough gifts for him but couldnt' resist because the clothing is normally VERY expensive retail and was in excellent shape. I paid $10 for a pair of pants and shirt that would normally cost probably $200. He loves these brands so he'll be thrilled. Also found an old Disco record for $1 as he has dj turntables and loves retro music :)
Will go again this weekend to find items for the others! Phew..just two more people to go then i'm done "shopping"! :)
Im getting married this summer and my friends and family are asking me where we registered. Truth is I didn't do it yet. between the two of our homes we have everything we need. We could use a little extra cash, does a money tree sound bad? and how would I go about doing that without sounding bad? Or anyother gift ideas?
In the summer and at harvest time I love to make jams, butters and salsas. If I am looking for a quick easy last minute gift for someone, I bake a loaf of whole grain bread in my breadmaker and give them a jar of jam/butter with it!
If you are making the winter salsa (recipe found on this site), then you can buy a nice bag of organic tortilla chips to go with it.!
I like to package these gifts in large brown paper bags :)
On Monday I just happened to stop at a Barnes and Nobel Booksellers by my work. I'm so glad I stopped. I got a bunch of games marked down to $1.00 each. One was the Scene It TV DVD game, I got a pack of Uno Cards and two packages of poker chips in a nice case. For $4.24 I got over $48.00 worth of gifts! Unfortunately when I went back after work to score more swag, it was all gone.
I also did some great shopping with my Nordstrom's gift card from my bosses at Christmas time. This time I got a pair of jeans that started out at $78 (I got them for $20.34). Of course I'll have to have them taylored to fit me better, but still that is better than buying some pairs of jeans. I also got a camisole top for $2.29 (originally $19.97) I also got a blue sweater to go over the camisole for $11.00 (originally $38) and a skirt for $5.99 (originally $38). I will have to find a nice black top to go with the skirt. It was such a deal and fit me so well that I can wait to wear it when I find the right top to go with it.
I was watching a shopping show and a Co. was selling Pretzel logs for a fortune. So, I decided to make them as gifts since their value is that of gold.
HERE'S HOW: Roll Pizza dough into logs about 8" long and about the size of a finger. Place on greased cookie sheet and and bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or until firm to the touch.
After cooling dip in chocolate, cheese or any coating you can think of then roll in sprinkles for color. Make some plain, brushed in egg white and rolled in small rock salt and returned to the oven for three minutes.
