Post hole diggers, Snake deterent?

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Life is interesting on a farm. Ya never now from one day to the next what you will see or hear or find.. Such as:  One morning I got up, put on the coffee and grabbed my housecoat,   and headed out to feed and water the critters and let loose those that free range in the daytime. Sooo, there I am in my nightie and housecoat and of course my bunnie slippers. And as I get a bit closer to the poultry house, I hear all kinds of commotions going on in the peafowl pen. Which is right next to the Chicken house.

And, just as I reach the chicken house door, a snake comes flying, Yes flying,  flying OUT, of the Peafowl pen, right between me, the chickens, and the only way out in a smallish fenced in area and the only thing in there, was me, that snake, and a pair of post hole diggers... And he was NOT happy.. He was quite ticked off to be honest. The peafowl had just whooped him and flung him out. They were screaming and screeching, chickens were leaping and cackling, pygmies were running all over the place screeching Baaaaaa baaaaa and head butting each other,  and the geese were honking and hissing and totally freaked out,  and oh gosh it was just chaos. Needless to say, my sleepy self I woke up VERY quick. I was not at all expecting a flying snake, let alone a snake biting and snapping and flinging itself at me.. I snatched them post hole diggers up and before I stopped, I was out of breath, the snake was in about five peices.. And so, to top things off,  I turned around panting and gasping, one bunny slipper off, housecoat askew, all the other critters were JUST frozen, staring at me, like I`m a crazy post hole digger hacking a snake up old lady they have never even met before, but,  just  to see all three of the dogs lined up like they are at the movies taking it all in and wanting some pop corn.. So I asks ya, Where is a good dog when ya need one? Right there. They have your back.. AND,  They can`t wait to get inside and tell the cat..{;-)

Peace and blessings....
