lilacs

I wondering if you can trim lilacs. I want to plant one of the larger kinds but i dont want it to grow wild. And what would i use to trim it?

yes you can trim your lilac bush back as much as 1/3 after the blooms have gone in the early spring. they set their buds in the summer for the next spring. that way you aren't cutting back their buds
