Carrie's Common Cents :)

I grew up in a large family with lots, and I mean LOTS, of hand-me-downs. So learning to be frugal started at a very early age. :) I am always willing to try new ways to be frugal.

Have you ever looked around to find that this can't possibly be your life??? As my 13 year old almost looks me in the eyes and my 11 year old is almost looking me in the eyes too....I just wonder where did they come from??? and how did I get so lucky???? They are so well-behaved and I can't imagine my life without them. Everyday they give me a reason to thank God for all the blessings that he has given us....if we have nothing else to be thankful for-they would be the one thing that reminds us that we always do!!! Typically for New Year's I do not make goals or resolutions...I always fail and then I get discouraged at myself...haha, but this year??? I am not making goals or resolutions, but making my mind up that the things that I can control for change...I will be motivated and proactive.

1. Find ways to respect my parents even they don't deserve it!!! God instructs us to do this....this will be my biggest challenge for the year.

<span style "font-size: small">Ephesians 6:1-3 1Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2"Honor your father and mother"—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3"that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."

2. Find MORE ways to save money and get as close to debt-free as God will allow. I say that meaning....we will take what God gives us and not waste anything!!!

Hello again.....I have been doing an experiment. Long time overdue, but better late than never-right??? I have been air drying everything (laundry) except blue jeans, wash clothes - kitchen/bath, and under garments. Wal-Mart offers an air drying rack for approximately $15.... So we received our electric bill this month, and yes we are on budget billing, and our bill was different by $40 each month. HOW EXCITING!!!!! I have ran my dryer maybe 3 times this past week. The savings alone is nice, but knowing that I helping that little bit more with the environment....is even more exciting.

As we are preparing to leave for the weekend...for a one-day getaway to a theme park....we are setting out things from the freezer and preparing meals for our getaway. We have been teased for years for our tendency to pack food, but....I know that packing food is healthier and will help keep our spending budget at hand. Some people are 'embarassed' to pack lunches, but not me!!!! I enjoy having our food prepared when we are ready to eat, snack or drink, rather than standing in line for a fat-filled hot dog/burger. :)
