Last day of 2008!

Wednesday, December 31, 2008

I must say I am MORE than pleased to see 2008 go. I've never been so excited to ring in a new year. Somehow this has been the worst year I've ever experienced, one event being my dad's death almost a year ago in January. Then the year just kept going downhill after that and most people I know have had a similar experience. My best girlfriend lost her mom a month after my father passed away.

Trying to keep things positive and in perspective, I decided to make the best of it regardless of all the things that have happened in 2008.

I am lucky to have one of my closest friends here with me for New Years Eve. He and I decided to buy tickets to a bar here which will host a dj from L.A. We paid $27 per ticket which isn't all bad considering my boss paid $75 for his tickets for the theater tonight! yikes! We will have a few drinks here then head out. They will doubtfully have happy hour at the bar because I find bars want to make as much money as possible at this time. This means maybe ONE drink purchase while I'm out. There is supposed to be 30cm of snow coming tonight, so let's hope we can get a taxi back (or I might have to pack my big boots and walk home which would take about 30mins).

I thought I might do something for dinner, perhaps make a special African Peanut Stew or something rich as it's so cold out, basically comfort food is what i'm after! Part of me wants to pick up sushi but that's another $20 I could probably save. Dilemmas! I made some Chex Mix snacks for this evening too, and will take out my famous zucchini salsa for all to feast on.

Thankfully I have the day off, which means I have lots of time to ponder my dinner choices for this evening. My sweetie will be home around lunchtime and I believe we'll be making the baklava. We were supposed to make it Christmas but neither of us wanted to then.

Have a happy 2009, I think it's going to be a GOOD year!
