Summoned for the Green Card Interview

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

My Husband and I have been summoned to the green card interview.  I don't really know what to expect because most of my knowlege comes from that movie "Green Card."  So I expect they are going to ask crazy questions like "what color is his toothbrush?" and "What is the name of the lipstick I wear?"   In the movie the two were just getting married so the man could stay in the U.S. but then of course end up falling in love.  Since I have nothing to be afraid of because our marriage comes from the heart, I am a little excited to go through the process.  I wonder how similar it will be to the movies about the process.

If you have difficulties, it might help to get legal advice - I have had friends who have had great difficulties...

When my friend and her hubby went to feds to clear for her greencard, they put them both in different rooms. and asked questions like 'what color did your wife wear to bed last night", what is the brand of toothpaste you usel and just changed the gender when the other room was being questioned. Just weird questions... if you two live together, and know each other, you will pass. A few mis-answered are ok, "where does her/his sister/brother live. Do they visit you? It takes about 4-6 weeks to hear an answer, and another 5-6 MONTHS before the 'green' card arrives in your mailbox. Good luck!

About Me:

I am Susan of Thrifty Fun's youngest daughter. I started working for Thrifty Fun in 2005 and have been doing so, on and off, since. My mom taught me all about frugal living and I strive to live a frugal and sustainable life. Since 2006 I have been living in and out of Viet Nam. When I am there I work as an English teacher for 4-8 year olds and volunteer in orphanages and centers for children and adults with disabilities. I am currently living in the States with my husband working on all the paperwork it takes for a "green card." My experiences in Viet Nam gave me a different look at thrifty living and I try to use some of what I have learned there, in my life in the U.S.
