Joys and Tears in making an offer on a house

Thursday, June 14, 2007

Well, we've made our first offer on a house!

We've received the counter offer and are now making another counter! What a stressful time this has been! It's constantly a struggle between being thrilled to pieces at the thought of our very own house, yet at the same time, frustrating because the owner of the house (who is actually a company that upgrades and renovates HUD houses) is continually trying to up the sell price beyond what we feel comfortable with.

We've decided that this 3rd offer (or second counter) of ours will be the last and final offer. I am praying that they will take the offer. Please say a prayer for us that either way this works out we will be peaceful with the decision. We know that God knows best and has the best  things in store for us... but sometimes it's hard to trust!

I have been amazed through this process at how ridiculously expensive houses are these days. This house we are making an offer on is a small house, but very nice. From the 70's, in an established older neighborhood. It's the only house we've found that was as nice as it is in our price range. I sure hope this works out.

I wish I weren't so emotional over big decisions like this!!

Anybody had a similar experience? Did it turn out well and to your advantage?

Been Through It Before, Going Through It Now

It's definitely tough to get attached to a house and worry about it slipping away. The key is to know that are is always another house and another seller, so stick to your guns. Everything is set up to drive the price up... from financing to real estate agents, they all make more if the house sells for more. So stick to your guns and always have the courage to walk away and move on to something else. Best of luck! We are submitted an offer on a house as well and are waiting to hear back. It's our best final offer, the house just doesn't make sense for any more money.

moving mania

we have been in the same house for 20 years. We have lived in the same area for 46 years. It could be an grand adventure to move 2 hours away or it could be the destruction of my destiny.

Thanks fisher! I wish I had read your email a few days ago! We gave a higher offer than we probably should have, but they did take it. I have to say, we have learned a lot through this process and I wish we had taken more people's advice! If this house doesn't work out (and I am starting to have my doubts) I will take your advice the next time we do this and stick to our guns on the price!! Thanks for your help! I hope your own offer goes well! Will be praying for that for you!!
