MamaJude's Frugality

Since becoming a widow, life has been very interesting. I try to recycle everything. No, I'm not a nut who goes hog-wild. But, there are many things I do. One instance, I love the candles people give me. I wait until they have melted wax in there, dump out the wax, let it harden, break it in pieces and use that as fire starters. Since I have a big wood furnace, this has come in very handy. Old broken crayons do the same thing.
My shopping has gone down to groceries. I shop only from the Roundy's sale flyer. I stock up on things I need when it's 10/$10.
I have a re-sale shop just a bit down the street from me. It has great clothing. A couple years ago, I bought blue jeans - practically new - for $8 each. I'm still wearing them and they're in perfect condition.

MamaJude, I use candle wax too for firestarters; I have dipped pinecones in the melted wax and I have also used dryer lint in the wax, pour it into cardboard egg cartons and cut apart the sections.
I, too, like the local re-sale shop; I got a beautiful red blazer for $2.50. I love letting someone else spend the big bucks on the clothes, then when they get tired of it, it gets passed on to someone like us for a much better price!
I look forward to your future blogs... Best wishes, Paula

I know what you mean. I'm also a widow and am having to learn how to get by on much less income. And it still costs as much to live...hea the house, home maintenance, car maintenance, insurance, etc. all cost as much for one as they do for two. Always stock up at the store sales and have plenty of groceries , laundry and paper supplies on hand to last for quite a while. One of my major problems is health insurance and prescripions. Shop quite a bit at the resale shops myself. Want (and need) to lose some weight, but that would mean buying all new clothes. LOL

I'm a widow 10 years now, and new to this feedback stuff. right now only thing I have to say is watch the wax soot from the candles and crayons. I found that it is always good to once a year burn cedar logs in your fireplace but not a big fire and watch it closelyCedar burns HOT and will burn away some of the wax soot. It helps to keep your chimeny clean. I found if you take magisines that haave a lot of color in it, soak it in water and dish detergent, roll it up very tightly and let it dry then burn it, it gives you a colorful fire.
