Neglect - So sorry
Monday, June 07, 2010
I realize that I have neglected you guys in blog world - in the last month - not that I have given up my freaky frugality - Far from it!
The latest is that hubby has initiated a reorganization of our little bathroom - And we have been looking for a nice little extra storage cabinet all over the place - but couldn't find anything HUBBY liked. Finally found some seagrass/rattanish little chest of drawers on sale at Cost Plus (I had gone in to get a $6 parasol, like the one my buddy had at the Vox Femina Tea Party benefit we all participated in. (Me as Red Queen.)
I found an orange parasol - and then saw the chests on sale - & since I am on their email list, I get 20% off & because it was a slightly dinged floor model, I got ANOTHER 10% off for asking. (Hubby was too shy, but not ME...) So we got everything for less than the usual price of the chest....I don't usually shop in those sorts of stores, as I think they are pricey - but I DO like the wicker/rattan.... which is a good value for the money....
The day before I had gone to an audition in a weird ethnic part of town near me - & discovered a little Hispanic swap meet - where I scored some rhinestone fashion rings for $1 each - and some nice barrettes decorated with what I think are carnelians and other stones - 2 for $5!! Hubby sneered, but one does find the best buys at weird places!
When we were looking for the chest for the bathroom, we stopped into our local Goodwill & I found 2 steals I couldn't resist - #1 a Dooney & Bourke vanilla leather pouch handbag for $10 (worth $250 new!) and #2 a long black fringed scarf, which turned out to be SILK for $4. Now, how could I resist? Strangely enough that Goodwill is very expensive for jewelry....The buys were as good as those at Cost Plus - but I revel in even lower prices! And heaven knows, I have enough in my jewelry collection....I fantasize selling it off in my "old age" - but who knows? Every piece a bargain...
We went to a very nice event at the Motion Picture Academy - did I mention that? Inexpensively - and I am always entering drawings for free tix to events. I got a discount invite to one of those girly makeup skin care events with gift bags & looks like I will go with a girl friend of mine....
And, of course, in the mail, I get my samples of deodorant, tooth paste, shampoo and so on....Boy, are there LOTS of those - Plus my free fashion magazines, such an indulgence! (Check out www.freestufftimes for leads on that sort of thing...) I enter EVERYTHING. Why not? I do wish I could win a trip - anywhere really - just a free junket....
I AM trying to be good about my purchases - last visit to Goodwill in Moorpark, I just shopped the dollar rack! And there's a dollar rack at the Animal Thrift shop, too - One can find nice tshirts. Me, pay $20 for a tshirt? Never....
Saw AVATAR at home on pay TV - & I am glad that I didn't fork out $$ to see it in 3D (well, I don't have much depth perception, anyway...)
Find a LOT of craft sites & DIY on the net now - downloaded 2 patterns for very simple dresses - & I have found some free knitting patterns, too. (Check out http://lulalouiseblogspot.com/2007/two-hour-dresstunic.html & http://www.craftstylish.com/item/64549/1-hour-dress for the EZ dress patterns.) Do you know that I saw a plain crepe sheath done by a designer for $1500?? Whew!
Hubby & I are going to the park for a picnic - & maybe will use the golf course putting green (that's a freebie). We are so lucky we have such a nice park nearby. Let's hear it for parks & trees!
(And here's a pic of me as the grumpy red queen at the Tea Party benefit - in my homemade finery...)
