Blog: Stella in Vietnam

I have spent 1.5 years volunteering and working in Da Nang, Viet Nam. I volunteer in orphanages and work at centers for disadvantaged and/or disabled children, specifically working with children who are deaf. I also work as an English teacher.

Turn in the Road
Saturday, April 19, 2008

So Here is the deal, I am not leaving for Viet Nam in 7 days as planned (for those of you who have not been updated on my life).  Instead I got myself a fancy job working for the county!  So for all of you I have not seen yet, I will be around for awhile!

It has been a whirlwind of life changes in the last couple months(or last couple years at that), but I guess I am falling into place as any good American should. I got my 40 hour a week job, bills, credit card and working on getting that bright and shinny automobile.  Oh the joys of life!

But truly, I think I am really going to enjoy this job and it will give me the ability to save money so I can do other things I am passionate about it life.

I am not really sure where the future will lead me at this juncture, nor do I have much of a plan of where I want it to.  But during this time I will focus on:
*SAVING MONEY
*Learning to play my bright and shinny electric upright bass.
*Developing my dance teaching skills.
*Developing my fluency in Vietnamese.
*Developing my skills of living a stress free, NOW focused lifestyle.
*Spending quality time with family and friends.
*Finding the best way for Viet and I to be closer(distance wise) without either of us giving up on our passions.

About Me:

I recently obtained my bachelors degree in special needs education, cultural studies, dance and sustainability studies (I went to a liberal arts college that did not have majors). I have always wanted to travel the world and had been in the application process to join the Peace Corps until I found Global Volunteering Network. Before I ended up in Vietnam I had never thought of going there but I try to be a spontaneous being and when this opportunity present itself, it felt right and I left two months later.
